Pontoon Boat Safety

pontoon boat safety

As with any type of boat, certain precautions should be taken to ensure that your experience is safe and enjoyable.

Life Jackets – Make sure to have a life jacket for every person on board. Children should wear their life jackets at all times while on the boat.

Rough Water – Pontoon boats are not made for use in open sea or on stormy days. The flat design does not allow it to ride waves very well, and cases of the bow submerging under a large swell are not uncommon. Should the wind begin to rise, or you find yourself outside of sheltered waters, immediately head for home.

Pre-Check – Before heading out on the water, inspect the tubes for any punctures. The tubes provide the flotation, and should one of them start taking on water, the craft will list and possibly flip. If there are any punctures, do not use the boat until it is repaired.
